Presentation Practice

Today, we got into groups of three/four and did practice presentations. First off, today’s lesson helped me realize that my thoughts were not organized enough when it came to explaining the plot. I will need to make sure to clarify which parts of the storyline is important and must be mentioned in my presentation. In terms of content, however, I think everything else was nicely summarized. Additionally, this class was a great opportunity for me to improve my slideshow overall. When Mr.Paterson taught us about the three slides at the end, which are summarizing, questions, then the last point, I realized I’d completely forgotten to put them in. I felt lucky to have been reminded because otherwise, my presentation would have been missing an important piece! I came up with a thought provoking, intriguing question to say on my last slide afterwards, which I’m sure will really get the audience’s brains thinking. Besides the mistake of forgetting the last part, I think my slideshow was nicely designed. The order, even though it was different from some peoples’, I think it was effective at delivering my message. Now that I have my basis, I’d like to take a lot of time practicing the actual speaking / presenting.
Secondly, Mr. Paterson told us about some of the things we must keep in mind when creating a slideshow. Giving photo credits becomes extremely important as we must respect the owners of the photos. Also, like last semester, the title cover photo must be significantly attractive. This is because it’s the slide that people will be looking at for the longest time. I also still need to add a brief ‘table of contents’ slide before I start explaining the book or start talking about the author. I will make sure to incorporate these tips into my own presentation, as I know it’ll allow me to express my thoughts/opinions more clearly and without mistakes.
